Jonas Goes Back to School
Yes, it's true... Jonas has applied for several hydrologist jobs in
the past; some of them he’s made the list for and others he hasn’t. One particular
job in Medford,
he didn’t qualify for due to a lack of physics and calculus college credits. We thought it was some mistake, since Jonas
has a Master’s degree. After all, he has been in the applicant pool for other hydrologist
positions – including his current position in Roseburg. The HR people in Roseburg saw that he had a Master’s degree
and assumed he had the required amount of physics and calculus credits (six
credits each). It has since come to everyone’s attention that Jonas needs more physics
and calculus to make his current and future hydrologist positions official and
legitimate. Hydrology is the only field
in which these requirements are requested and the only field where a master’s
degree doesn’t override undergraduate coursework deficiencies. Currently he has four physics credits and three
calculus credits, so an additional class of each will give him more than the
required amount of credits to pursue hydrology. He is enrolled in an online physics
course and a lab through Chemeketa Community College in Salem. Additionally he will be taking an online Differential
Calculus course hosted through Umpqua Community College here in Roseburg.
He is less than thrilled about all this and really isn’t thrilled about
paying tuition and textbook fees.
