Great news featuring Sarah Palin!
All I've gotta say is "What was she thinking?!"
If you think that quitting in the middle of a term to an elected office is going to position you better for future political positions, then you're wrong! I don't know how people could consider this "good strategy." Two things come to mind:
- She cares more about herself than she does about her constituents (do we really want that person to continue to represent us?)
- She can't handle the job. Let's face it, her career has been tainted by ethics violations for years!
This article from the UK seems to touch on things nicely; And here's another one from Fox News for all of you conservative folks out there who have managed to read this far. And here is a hilarious essay from MSNBC.
I say "GREAT", not only is she temporarily out of the political arena, but if the GOP is dumb enough to nominate her for president, the Obama stands an excellent chance at re-election in 2012!
Comments
When asked about the transition from Palin to Parnell during an interview on Alaska Public Radio yesterday with an elected Republican office holder, the comment was that Parnell will probably continue Palin’s policies but is much more contemplative than Palin and unlike Palin is more interested in “governing” than the “governorship” (a positive break for Alaska in my opinion). This analysis only attests to the growing schism within the Republican Party on the statewide and national level that has become a problem for Sarah Palin.
I feel badly for her and her family as they have really been negatively scrutinized by the media but that has to be expected when you put yourself into politics especially on a national level but it is how you handle yourself during this scrutiny that really shows a political maturity that is needed so that your life does not enter the “reality show” genre. She probably will be more effective for her political base having left the governorship which actually may be a smart move on her part. But to effectively hold an elected office one must be able to work collaboratively, transparently and in the “sportsmanlike” terms that she so likes to use, look at the “entire playing field” to be more successful.
My reaction to her resignation announcement was similar to a majority of the populace, even those close to her politically, which was “surprise” but if you look at how she governs, one should not be surprised as that is how she operates. No one seems to know what her motivations are and that is probably why she has become such fodder for the media. I do not see this as a day to celebrate, but hopefully outside of office she will be able to support the ideals she champions more effectively. It is too bad that she saw her remaining days in office as not important (lame duck status) and a financial burden on Alaskans. She possibly could have changed that assumption and gone out with a bang and become more effective because of it ....but maybe she had other reasons which I’m sure the media will try their hardest to reveal. Anyway, I’m going to go out and enjoy the 4th of July parade which I’m sure Sarah Palin will not attend even though invited, but then I don’t think she has been in Sitka since 2007. Have a happy July 4th everyone and enjoy your families and the true political struggles behind our forefather’s radical efforts to establish a new nation.
