Once the wedding party is onboard the Scansonia, the preparations start getting really serious. Christie and the Bridesmaids start getting dressed upstairs, with Christie taking meausures not to be seen by Ryan. Maid of Honor Rachael helps Christie get dressed.
One of the things that was a little different at this wedding than most I have attended, is that photographer Grant took most of the wedding photos before, rather than after, the ceremony. I thought this worked really.
Anyway, in this series of photos the wedding party gets prepared and Grant takes pictures.
I have split the wedding pictures into 2 groups consisting of prewedding arrivals and preparation and the ceremony itself. These are the prewedding pictures.
On August 29, the day of Christie and Ryan's wedding, the day started out sunny but a cold front was supposed to pass through in the evening with a chance of rain so we were all hoping that the rain would hold off. Even though the sky clouded over in didn't rain.
For me, holding the wedding on a boat and being surrounded by boats was fun and reminded me of one of my favorite quotes from Rat in the book Wind in the Willows where he says, "There is nothing — absolutely nothing — half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats. In or out of ‘em, it doesn’t matter. Nothing seems really to matter, that’s the charm of it. Whether you get away, or whether you don’t; whether you arrive at your destination or whether you reach somewhere else, or whether you never get anywhere at all, you’re always busy, and you never do anything in particular; and when you’ve done it there’s always something else to do." In other words, there is no better place to hold a wedding than on a boat.
We were scheduled to arrive at the Skansonia at 5:30 p.m. The DuBois party started arriving about 5:00 p.m. because Scott was having to ferry several car loads of people from the hotel to the Scansonia in the heavy 5:00 p.m. traffic. When our first load arrived, we were not allowed to board until precisely 5:30. But that gave us a chance to visit and greet early arrivers as they showed up.
The wedding rehearsal was held on the late afternoon of Aug. 28. The wedding was to be held on a decommissioned ferry docked in Lake Union. The goal was to conduct the wedding ceremony on the open air back deck of the ferry. However, we rehearsed two versions of the ceremony, an outdoor and an indoor version, in case it rain. These pictures start out showing the outdoor version and then some of the indoor rehearsal.
I hope I got everybodies names right and apologize if I didn't.
